Today's economy is tough, and it has been hardest on small business owners. But even during these tough times, keeping a positive attitude is the key that opens doors. It may seem like a paradox in times of trouble, but as hard as it may be it really is the key to success.

One of the most positive people I know has faced countless struggles in her journey to have her own business so she could make her own hours and be there as a mother to her children. She started a legal transcription business and, despite initial struggles, her positive attitude never wavered and she now owns and operates a business with over 70 employees providing transcription services.

Her success story is a testament to the power of a positive attitude. Never once did I hear her say that she was afraid she wouldn't succeed; she was always positive and focused on the outcome. By staying mentally charged, not only did she not allow for the prospect of failure to darken her chances, but she completely prevented it from even being a possibility. It may seem like a cliché, but a positive attitude is something that all successful people have in common. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will.

And friend is a perfect example of this, completely embodying the mind over matter mantra. She has always believed in herself when starting up her business as a legal transcription services provider. At first it was just a tiny at-home business, allowing her to spend more quality time at home with her family. Everything seemed against her though, and no one believed a home-based business could succeed in this economy, or that transcription services were really in demand. But didn't let that get her down. She stayed positive, worked hard and built her business from the ground up.

Today her business employs over 70 people doing legal transcription and other home-based transcription services that are affordable and profitable. Her story shows the power of a positive attitude and the importance of never believing – or even thinking – that failure is a possibility.
